Losing weight as a couple: compete or team up? 💑

⚡ In short: Couples do best with a fair ranking in percent, because starting weights are rarely equal. Build shared routines, enjoy a bit of friendly rivalry – and make sure it never turns into pressure. On FatFight, a duel for two is free.

⚖️ Different starting weights

Two people rarely start at the same weight. The heavier one usually loses kilos faster, which can feel unfair to the other. That’s why couples need percent instead of kilos even more: it shows how much each of you has achieved relative to your own starting weight. Here’s how it’s calculated: how to calculate weight loss percentage.

🥊 Compete or team up?

Compete

A proper duel with a leaderboard and a crown 👑 adds energy. It works when both of you enjoy competing.

Team up

You cook together, go for walks and remind each other to log. The ambition is aimed at the scale, not at your partner.

You can mix both: a team in everyday life, friendly rivals on the leaderboard.

🏡 Shared routines

😬 What if one of you is faster?

It almost always happens. Remember: fluctuation is normal and a single day’s number says little. The one in front shouldn’t gloat; the one behind shouldn’t give up. If that doesn’t help, switch to “percent only” and keep the weights private. And think of the rematch – the leaderboard is only a snapshot.

🤔 When a duel is not a good idea

If either of you feels pressure just thinking about the comparison, choose the “team up” route without a leaderboard, or skip the challenge altogether. Your partner’s weight is never a subject for teasing. With existing health conditions, pregnancy, eating disorders or any doubt, please ask your doctor first. Slow, steady change is generally considered more sustainable than crash diets.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Can a couple compete fairly at losing weight?

Yes, if you rank in percent. Then what counts is the change relative to your own starting weight, and a higher starting weight is no longer an advantage.

What does FatFight cost for couples?

A duel for two is free on FatFight. Only from the 3rd fighter on is there a 3-day trial and then the group pass.

Do we have to show each other our weight?

No. Everyone can keep their weight private, and the other only sees the change. You can also set the whole fight to “percent only”.

What if one of us loses weight much faster?

That’s normal and says little about effort or success. Look at the trend over weeks rather than single days, and celebrate both of your progress. There is a rematch after the fight ends.
